ELVERA DENNING,
The Author

Known by many as "Grandma of the Mountains"

The Mother, the Grandmother, the Christian Lady, and Friend to many.  Since Carl's moving to Heaven in 1983, Elvera's children and friends have been a constant support during Carl's absence these past many years. She has made many trips for lengthy visits with her children, and has enjoyed their coming to spend time with her in West Virginia.

Although Elvera’s own children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren live miles away from her, yet they are close to her heart and she thinks about them and prays for them each day.  The activities and achievements they share with her are of great interest and importance, and she looks forward to any phone messages that may have been left when she was away from the house.

There is also another loved family that is very dear to her- and that is her Church and the Christian friends that enrich her life.  She looks forward to being with them at every opportunity.

She loves living in beautiful West Virginia and being among the people she meets there.  Truly to her West Virginia is “Almost Heaven” as the State slogan so aptly describes it.

God has brought Elvera through several major operations, after the death of her husband Carl. Her children have stayed with her during her operations and shared in caring for her in their homes during her recoveries. A friend helped her do some early packing when in the Fall of 2008 she knew she was going to have to move.  Early May of 2009 members of the WV Bible class she attended packed up her belongings (during her absence in recovering from a surgery done in Nov of 2008), and her church family moved her into the parsonage, where she now resides. She will ever be grateful to ALL who cared for her in so many thoughtful ways. One of her daughters flew her home and stayed with her in WV during her next operation the end of May of 2009 and the next 7 months of recovery till she was her independent self again.  Six months later Elvera went back to gallivanting around the country in her little red car!

She throughally enjoys drives on her beloved West Virginia mountains, and especially so if she has someone with her to enjoy it’s scenic beauty.  Bright colors flow from her home and a quiet, restful spirit is present with soft classical music or Christian hymns. Guests are a delight to her. Her cat, Kitty Lynn- the mischief maker that brings entertainment and welcomed companionship to her- was rescued from a homeless life to her loving home.   Elvera is a girl at heart!  She loves life- and it shows in her radiant smile.

She has a heart to stay active for the Lord as long as He chooses to keep her here and delights in studying God’s precious Word herself, and sharing its Truths with others.  She never tires of being taught by God’s called Pastors through sound expositional teaching and preaching.
